Coir 60/40 does not compress like soil, it retains air pockets within the substrate, which allows for air movements throughout the substrate. The increased aeration inhibits the establishment of anaerobic microbes in the substrate, which tend to be pathogenic. The chips are a high level of consistency and quality, pest and disease free, thoroughly rinsed & pH stabilised. Coco Chips have a high capacity for liquid retention and high friability, which ensures that nutrients remain present and available to plant root systems. Additionally, the larger chip size increases aeration and drainage, and is more resistant to breakdown which promotes longevity.
What are the main benefits of Coir Chip?
Coir Chip’s primary benefit is its water retention ability, including its ability to be easily re-hydrated. Coconut coir also possesses aeration properties which is important in soil less growing. Because of these two factors, plants grown in coconut coir, experience stronger root and better health overall because of its neutral pH level.
